When CNN Needed Interview Expertise,
the Pentagon Referred Stan Walters
CNN contacted Stan after a Pentagon source recommended him for expert analysis of the Bowe Bergdahl case.
During the release of U.S. soldier Bowe Bergdahl, CNN contacted Stan for a behavioral analysis prepared for broadcast on The Lead with Jake Tapper. The producer explained that CNN had reached out to the Pentagon for an expert referral, and a Pentagon source recommended Stan by name. Stan completed a full behavioral assessment concluding that Bergdahl’s actions aligned with deliberate desertion. The segment was scheduled for air but was ultimately pre-empted by breaking live coverage of Derek Jeter’s retirement. Stan now teaches Bergdahl’s “Cycle of Behavior” as part of his advanced training programs.

Inside the Interview Room
With Stan B Walters - The Lie Guy®
Analyzing critical interviews under pressure —
how they shape perception, credibility, and downstream consequences.
Stan B. Walters doesn’t even suggest interviewers follow scripts or techniques. He reframes how interviewers diagnose and think about interviews—moving them away from outdated assumptions and unsupported body-language or nonverbal deception cues, and toward evidence-based, narrative-driven methods that hold up under courtroom scrutiny.
Frequently recognized by investigators internationally through his virtual and in-person training.
A Courtroom-Defensible Standard for Interview Analysis
High-profile interviews don’t just shape public opinion—they can shape legal outcomes.
My analysis is grounded in the same legal and scientific standards used to evaluate reliability and credibility in court, not intuition or speculation.
